X-1 Pedal Hybrid-Cool Electric Wheels!
Back in 1985 Sinclair launched the C5, a mass produced but short lived hybrid tricycle designed for use in the UK without a licence. Although a commercial failure, with only 12,000 units sold, the C5 proved it was possible to mass produce a hybrid pedal power vehicle at a reasonable cost.

Now its 2011, and Sinclair Research have been busy designing the X-1 Pedal Hybrid vehicle. Now with only 2 wheels, but upgraded with better batteries, and a leaner, sleeker profile, the X-1 is Sinclair’s first foray into hybrid vehicles since the ill fated C5.
Whilst perhaps less traditional than regular bicycles, or even electric powered bicycles, the X-1 makes the most of many of the same benefits that its uncovered brethren do. Here in the UK the X-1 will be able to use bicycle lanes, and may be subject to the governments up to 50% reduction through the Run, Cycle to Work Scheme. Priced at a competitive £595, the X-1 may be as oddly styled as its predecessor, but times have changed, and the public are more inclined to give a greener, cleaner form of transport a go!
