Volkswagen XL1 – Diesel Hybrid?
Diesel? Hybrid? Not sure about that… Volkswagen however seem quite interested in it as this concept car, called the XL1 unveiled at the Qatar Motorshow suggests. Packing an 800cc engine, VW suggest this car is capable of an astonishing 313 miles per gallon of fuel equivalent.
These impressive figures are possible thanks to a car that is roughly the same length as the current VW Polo, with an incredibly impressive weight of only 795kg. With a 0-60 speed of 11.9sec and a top speed limited to 99mph, this is certainly not a fast car, but judging by these numbers, it is definitely efficient.
What is most impressive however about the unveiling of this new car is that VW plan to launch the car in 2013, in both Germany and the UK. It remains unclear whether the model that eventually makes it to showrooms will be similiar in design, or made of the same carbon fibre frame, but we will certainly keep our ears, and eyes, open!
