New Volkswagen Beetle Unveiled

Over at the Auto Shanghai Motor Show, Volkswagen have taken the covers of their brand new Beetle. The new model is a direct replacement for the one launched back in 1998 – itself a replacement of the original beetle that was in production between 1938 and 2003!

Promising users more space and higher levels of comfort, the latest Beetle is set to off levels of comfort that any VW owner is use to that absent from the previous version. Judging by the their original Superbowl Ad for the new Beetle which would have come with a hefty price tag, it is fair to assume that VW are giving considerable backing to this new run around.

Whilst the design is no space age leap, consumers will welcome the changes to the new model that will make the car more user friendly, most notably improvements in internal space, luggage space and better handling, thanks to its lower profile.

There will be 4 engines available, with the entry model coming with a single 104bhp 1.6-litre diesel capable of 65.7mpg, putting out 112g/km of CO2.
At the top end is the Golf GTi 197bhp 2.0-litre TSI – sure to excite the petrol heads out there.

The new model launches January 2012.
