London Cycle Super Highways – A success
Commuting in London has become slightly more pleasant for a growing number of workers as commuters have taken in their droves to the Cycle Super Highways. Connecting Merton to the City, via Tooting, Balham and Clapham, as well as Barking to Tower Gateway, TFL have stated that the launch has been a huge success. Figures put use of these routes into the city up an average 70%, with some busier areas seeing an increase of over 100% during peak times!
The Cycle Super Highways were introduced as a way to make cycling within the city along its more congested arteries safer with clear, designated cycle only lanes. Ashok Sinha, chief exec of London Cycling Campaign (LCC) said “Our members will continue to work with TfL to build on this positive result, so that we can further increase the quality of provision in the next set of routes and attract yet more Londoners to this healthy, environmentally-friendly and enjoyable way to travel.”
