Young House Love – Site of the week!

I hate being late to a party – being 3 1/2 years behind everyone else is just embarrassing. If you think this writer has lost his marbles (what party is still rocking 42 months later), then I kindly point you towards Young House Love. How did I miss this? If you aren’t aware, i’ll give you a brief rundown on a DIY blog that is quickly becoming the blogging starlet of the moment.

Young House Love

Initially started by John and Sherry Petersik to document their foray into renovating the majority of their first home, this personal, just-for-fun blog has blossomed into a highly successful site now featuring their second home, and second project! With a writing style that seems to beautifully mimic the workings of great partnership, their tales of rug choices and reader named furniture make for engrossing reading.

But how did this avid blogging amateur manage to miss out on 2 leading lights of the building/construction/architecture/DIY blogosphere? I have no excuse, so I revert to the much used ‘blame Google’ defence. If you are working on your own home, or just decorating your front room, I’m not sure I could think of a better first stop for tips, advise and enthusiasm. The Petersik’s fill their work with a commitment that most professionals would struggle to replicate, and their daily posts are full of such passion its hard not to feel inspired to pick up a hammer and build that wardrobe or paint that wall.

Architecture is so much more than the outward appearance of a home, or even the internal fixtures and fittings. It’s about creating spaces filled with you. Residential architecture is a chance for us all to become designers, to leave our mark on the world, even to only ever be seen by you and your significant others. The Petersik’s are living proof however that a little passion (but very little professional know-how) are all you need to get yourself started on the long road to DIY heaven.
