Architecture Photo of the day #25 – Span

Some structures are recognisable the world over. They are iconic, like brands for their cities or nations. The Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco is one such structure that transcends its country and holds worldwide notoriety.

I chose this photo for today because I fell in love with the scale exhibited. From the (relatively) small criss crossing struts underneath the road, to the 2332m long cables that run between the towers. The beauty of bridges is in their span, the way they have been designed to carry their own weight – this of course includes the smallest of the details within the construction.
