Architecture Photo of the day #25 – Identified

Media

Our homes, and our places of work are created to house activities, but its when we start to use them and personalise them that we begin to identify with them. We add character, familiarity and a sense of meaning to what would otherwise be nothing more than a collection of materials.

In this photo, I loved the way the designers had incorporated the numbering of the building into the facade. Not only does this make perfect sense from a postal point of view (you’ll never miss No. 100), but its something different. It adds a layer of personality to a building that otherwise might be hard for its users to identify with. Its interesting that the building, at least from this view point appears to be nothing more than a carpark – strange how such a simple touch can make it seem like so much more!
