Awesome Eco LED Lights – Daily Ten
Lighting a room need not cost your pocket, and the earth a fortune. Lighting technology has progressed alot in the last decade, to the point that LED lighting has filtered down to everyday consumer products. Today, in the Daily Ten we salute the humble LED light. LED stands for Light Emitting Diode, and these tiny little wonders are surely going to feature far more heavily in our lighting products over the coming years.
10. Slim 7 Light Pendant, Vibia
Design by Jordi Vilardell, and looking like little carbon fibre droplets, this is a stunning looking pendant light. The canopy that holds the hanging pendants is made of chrome, creating a very classy unit. The pendants are designed to hang at either differing or equal lengths, changing not only the visual impact of the lights, but also the diffusing of the light itself. If you’re going to light your life with energy efficient pendants, surely these are an excellent option, and definitely a great way to start todays Daily Ten!
9. Silva Table Lamp, Cerno
Following on closely from the cold, precision, carbon fibre on No. 10 is the gorgeously warm Silva Table Lamp at No.9. Reminding this old art student of an artists easel, there is something captivating about the lamps simple, well engineered appearance. The combination of wood and metal gives this lamp a timeless appeal, its craftsmanship giving it the quality to become so.
8. Alpha Round Wall Light, Vibia
Sometimes what you require from a light is just that, light. If simplicity is what you require, light without the extraneous design, then the Alpha by Vibia maybe exactly what you require. With its low profile design and lush lacquer front plate in either white or black, this is a light designed to disappear. Highly designed and highly capable with more subtly than wink, this is a light that was just begging to make it onto our list.
7. LINK Medium Floor Lamp, Pablo Pardo
this is one beautiful classic pantograph task lamp, with a decidedly modern twist. Incorporating the most advanced LED system to date, not only will the Link look perfect in a reading room, it has a class and style allowing to effortlessly exist anywhere. The strength of this floor light, and whilst it sits in 7th place is its practical ability to provide focused light for the user.
The LINK has one more trump card, one that made it truly hard to decide on its final position on our list: its a product with a carefully considered cradle-to-cradle life cycle. The light weight design ensures that only the most essential of parts are used. Beautiful and economical – sounds perfect!
6. Pele Chandelier, Tech Lighting
The sphere – such a lovely shape. Its graceful, uncomplicated and perfectly suited to lighting a room. So, when you combine 7 spheres into one chandelier, that is a recipe for a great light. When you make sure those lights are LEDs? Wicked. The dangling spheres hang off a stunning walnut canopy, creating a warm, homely and stylish look to this classy light.
5. One Line LED Table Lamp, Ora Ito
If you can light design a lamp that can provide all the light your workspace needs into a thin, and almost invisible form, wouldn’t you want that on your desk? Thanks to Ora Ito we have the One Line table lamp. Delicate and extremely thin, but packed with powerful LED lights, this is certainly one light that will punch well above its weight, and with such a small footprint, leaving your desk free to be filled with plenty of other things!
4. LIM Floor Lamp, Pablo Pardo
There is something delightful about curved metal. It exudes a grace within its design that lends itself well to the idea and concept of lightness. The LIM floor light from the fantastic Pablo Pardo quietly screams class at you. Designed to not only offer differing levels of light via a dimmer, the lamp also features an elemental design, factors which contribute heavily to this being a highly adaptive and responsive product.
3. Mini Sigma Table Lamp, Vibia
If you wish to make any product appeal to the masses, generally speaking, adding the word ‘mini’ to it works – Mini Mouse, The Mini, mini skirt. The point is that the word itself conjures up images of joy, fun and freedom, and the Mini Sigma from Vibia exudes all 3. Designed to look great anywhere, on any desk, the light packs a powerful LED diffuser, so like the original Mini, this lamp may be small, but it will deliver!
2. SOLO Anywhere, LiAO
When you look at this brilliant lamp, it leaves you with one important question: why aren’t more lamps portable like this?? We live in an age of portable computing yet the lamp as we know it ties us to our desks. The Solo Anywhere allows you to dictate the space you want to work. Its elegant shape means its poised and the perfect angle to flood your work with as much, or as little light as required, thanks to the built in dimmer. A great looking lamp, worthy of our No.2 spot.
1. LIM Task Light, Pablo Pardo
Finally, we reach the number one spot – and again its a light from the superbly talented Pablo Pardo. The LIM Task Light (the second in the LIM range to feature on our list) is a stunning piece of modern design. Quite possibly the strangest design of the entire lot, the unique boxy base frame is a welcome change to the svelte forms of the previous entries. Designed to be tilted and moved to the users desire, the aluminium lamp really is made to be used, and not just look pretty.
