It is fair to say that we are living in unique times. For the first period in human history, more people live in urban centres than in the country. This is a phenomenal idea, and understanding the broad impacts of such a way of living, be it social, environmental, political or architectural is a tough task. Thankfully, we can at least begin to scratch the surface thanks the excellent Per Square Mile, a website dedicated to deciphering the way we live in the modern world.
Density. This is the word for Per Square Mile. Ours would be Architecture. Density is an excellent view point to be studying the modern human living condition. From the man who farms thousands of miles of fields and sees no other human for days on end, to the 23,000 people per square mile in London, Per Square Mile does an excellent job of making sense of the vast numbers involved in modern population!
