Tent London – Vonsung
Tent London was created to host a dramatic pop up cafe & bar pavilion designed by award-winning London design studio, Vonsung. From 23-26 September 2010, visitors to Tent London had the opportunity to experience Vonsung’s striking pop-up cafe & bar. Commissioned by Tent London the pavilion provided a unique dining and bar space for the duration of the event.
A fast build, the primary structure was constructed from materials loaned from Vonsung’s existing project sites. The cladding material, encasing the floor and ceiling, is Bolon, a world leader in woven vinyl material. The walls will be Valchromat®, an innovative, award-winning engineered coloured wood, used by architects, designers and decorators. The whole structure was illuminated by both skylight and dramatic indoor lighting, forming shadows and silhouettes – this set up created a compelling feature within Tent London’s design event.
The roof of the pavilion structure was designed to be seen from all directions; a series of wave sections, tilting towards key views forming a playful roof-scape. The spaces beneath this roof consisted of ‘hard vs. soft’ materials creating a radiating series of spaces, from the central dining area with the Peggy Table (Series) by Pearson Lloyd and chairs by Modus.
