Private Home, Henley-on-Thames, England – Spratley Studios
This home from Spratley Studios is a triumph in intervention architecture. It’s success lies in the quality and style in which the home has been updated, whilst retaining much of its original splendour. The palette of the new look home is fresh, with light tones driving light into every space within.
The home appears low slung from the external, thanks to its low profile, but inside, the space opens up thanks to some deceptively tall ceilings and again, the predominant light colour palette. The height changes within further extenuate the feeling of space within the home, differing volumes help to create self identifying areas.
“A brief to fulfil the dream of luxury, contemporary living within a truly unique home made this project one of a kind. With inspiration taken from the 1960′s modern original, the scheme was conceived with an updated palette of materials and cutting-edge sustainable features. The introduction of a basement gymnasium and pool area drove the design underground and an array of bespoke glazed elements was thus created to harness daylight and naturally light the basement: and with a spectacular effect. The structurally glazed atrium over the pool, combined with a seemingly floating glazed bridge, adds a dreamlike quality to this modern and spacious home”, Spratley Studios
