New World Centre – Frank Gehry
This is the New World Centre, home to the New World Symphony Orchestral Academy, in Miami, Florida designed by American architect Frank Gehry. With its curvy outer skin of overlapping segments, this is noticeably a Gehry designed building.
Housing a 756 seat performance hall which has been designed to be acoustically world class with sails that reflect the sound back towards the audience – they double up as projection screens.
Part of the exterior is an 80ft high glass curtain wall that acts as another projection space, this one designed to display what goes on within the performance hall to the outside world. The Academy is located across from the newly completed Miami Beach Soundscape park, designed by West 8, a Dutch firm.
