Madrid Green Wall – Herzog and de Meuron, Patrick Blanc

Architecture

We recently posted this, a great example of how architects can work with old or damaged buildings to bring new life to them. Over in Madrid, Swiss wonder architects Herzog and de Meuron, along with living wall expert Patrick Blanc, have converted an old building and covered one wall in gorgeous green vegetation.

The ‘greening’ of our cities with walls such as this is breathing new life into our urban centres. Urban rejuvenation is being embraced en masse across the world – a positive step towards making more of our cities. If we can make more of the buildings we consider to be beyond use, we can bring areas of our cities back to life. There is nothing wrong structurally speaking with most buildings that are pulled down, and we really should be exploring how we can upgrade existing buildings more often.
