London Velodrome for 2012 complete!

Architecture

In just over a year from now, London will welcome the world to the 2012 Olympics. Whilst during that time I think I may find anywhere else to be but here, the architecture that is rising up fast to the East of the city is impressive. The first completed venue for the games is the Michael Hopkins designed Velodrome, and it is quite something.

Clad in gorgeous cedar wood, the new home of competetive indoor cycling here in the UK really is a sight to behold, and has been dubbed ‘the best in the world’. We at Habitables very rarely get above a crawl on our pedal bikes, so we will unlikely ever take advantage of such a great looking venue, but its sure to be a success come summer 2012.

The Velodrome during construction

The double curve design from Hopkins was inspired by the tracks shape itself, and along with a number of clever systems built into the structure, its hoped that the velodrome will be the home of many world records by the end of the games.
