London City Fringe Masterplan – EPR Architects

Architecture

London Based architects EPR were commissioned by Tower Hamlets Council, London to masterplan the London Fringe area for the next 10-20 years. Long term master planning such as this is a major undertaking. The process requires the extensive gathering of information, both current and past, as well as projections for the future that can perhaps influence how the area may evolve.

The images below represent the process the architects took to dividing up the area to allow for healthy integration and development. Strategies such as this have been used for many years to help determine how an area should evolve, and it is hoped that this masterplan will lead to a flourishing London Fringe for decades to come.

“EPR Architects was appointed as a part of the Consultant Team to assist Tower Hamlets’ Planning Department, in preparing the City Fringe Area Action Plan (CFAAP). Our role was to provide a strategic Masterplan vision for the next 10-20 years for the City Fringe area.
The purpose of the City Fringe Area Action Plan was to:
Provide a framework for planning and appropriate intervention by the public and private sectors, that will fast-forward renewal of the area
Provide a mandate for the planning authority to coordinate the actions of other agencies, responsible for infrastructure and services
Recognise and resolve competing needs, addressing the commercial needs of the City of London, in a way that also provides opportunities for improved living conditions, and enhanced quality of life for those living in the City Fringe area”
