Loch Maree Residence, Scotland – Rural Design
When you design a house in such a breathtaking location, with beautiful scenery, it is so important that when its complete, it commands and makes the most of the stunning location. This home at Lock Maree by Rural Design has been geared towards making the most of what must be one of the greatest views found anywhere in the world – looking out across a lake, towards a mountain.
The home benefits from a range of materials that pay homage to the industrial nature of the previous building, with strong framing and lines coupled with natural wood cladding. The orientation of the home has been set so that a vast majority of the property commands the view across the lake. To this end, the home is a beautiful building, that wraps around, directing its visitors to engage in the world outside, guiding them to view outside, from within.
“The 500m2 house on the edge of Loch Maree in Rosshire in the North West Highlands replaces a former foresters cottage. Set within a mature woodland setting, with views from the site directly towards Slioch, one of the best known mountains in scotland, the house has been designed to embrace the spectacular scenery.
The use of timber has been a key issue in the development of the design, and it is proposes to take full advantage of timber within the structure, cladding and energy use of the house”, Rural Design Architects
