Architectural Photography Series #1 – David Churchill
David Churchill is an award winning architectural + interiors photographer based in London and Brighton, below David tells us a little bit about his work.
I have worked for architects and designers in the UK and internationally over the last 20 years. Recently I have found myself shooting many office fit-outs in the City which I enjoy as I have worked with some great designers including Pringle Brandon, HLW International and GMW Architects.
I have also been asked to shoot many superyacht interiors over the past 5 years as the skills involved are very transferrable.
The last project I shot was a yacht in Greece where I had to shoot exteriors as well. This had to be done from a helicopter which was a little more exciting than I am used to, but a great experience.
When shooting architecture, I am looking to emphasise the idea of the design. The goal is to try to cut out anything extraneous and convey what the designer was trying to do as clearly as possible. As I am composing I am thinking; ‘What is the image saying?’ ‘How can I improve it to say it more clearly?’
Some of David’s most recent work:
Westpac Bank, London
School of Architecture, Nantes
Orangebox Showrooms, London
Mossbourne Community Academy, London
Ile Extenso Calberson, Nantes
Bank of China, London
