Bierings House, Rocha Tombal

Architecture

When attempting to describe how unique this home is, its hard to know whether to start with the nearly wholly wooden clad exterior, or the peculiar window openings. Its probably safe to say that the entire house is outstanding, with many interesting aspects to it.

Simply entitled ‘House Bierings’, the house is designed to be respectful to local housing policies in its basic form, whilst admiring the local landscape with its piercing windows. Architects Rocha Tombal have successfully attempted to create a fairly consistent exterior fabric that not only allows the house to better blend away into its surroundings, but also allows for the spatial elements within the house to be better expressed.

Circulation through the building is determined by the windows themselves, affording those moving through the spaces a view to the outside as much as possible. There is no denying that this house is a visual delight. Its soft western sedar exterior is inviting, the interior simply stunning.
