9 Storey Water Tower Becomes Family Home

Architecture

We recently featured some beautiful but dangerous abandoned lighthouses in Russia. Whilst none of these are likely to be lived in anytime soon (thanks to a combination of remoteness and radiation), this is one utility building that has been given a new lease of life.

This water tower has been turned into a 9 storey family home by Dutch architects Zecc. We have featured the work of Zecc Architects previously, and this house certainly compares to the wonderful Black Pearl Home. The architects have focused on using sustainable materials, whilst also staying as true as possible to the original water tower design. The only major external change is the addition of a 3 storey high window from the ground – this floods the somewhat previously dark space with light.

Sitting atop of this unique family home is a terrace, commanding wonderful views across the land. It may be 9 long storeys away, but the view makes the walk all worth it!

Fantastically creative. I’ve had my eye on the spectacular French water towers for some time…

This just shows how creative and innovative people are. Even a tower can be use as a home. Its wonderful being in a higher place and see the magnificent view of the city.
